EMWD Birding Tours Resume at San Jacinto Wetlands
Perris, CA (October 21, 2019) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD)’s popular birding tours resume this month at EMWD’s San Jacinto Wetlands and will run through April 2020.
The free, family-friendly tours will take place on the fourth Saturday of each month at the EMWD’s Wetlands, where guests can view more than 120 species of birds that call the facility their permanent or temporary home. Previous tour guests have spotted bald eagles at the site.
The tours begin at 8 a.m. and last approximately two hours. For security purposes, gates will be open beginning at 7:45 a.m. and close at 8:05 a.m. All tours are conducted weather-permitting, and guests must wear closed-toed walking shoes.
The 2019-20 tour dates are as follows:

- December 28, 2019
- January 25, 2020
- February 22, 2020
- March 28, 2020
- April 25, 2020
The tours are led by experienced birding guides Joyce Schwartz, who also leads tours at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area, Craig Hughes and Antonio Corona. All three guides are active members of the National Audubon Society and veterans of the tours at EMWD’s Wetlands.
The tours include a walk around EMWD’s Wetlands, which include marshy areas that draw unique birds to the area. Guests are encouraged to bring cameras, binoculars and other viewing devices. A limited number of binoculars are available for guests to borrow.
Water bottles are permitted, and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The tour is not recommended for children six and under. Groups of five or more are required to call for reservations. For more information, or to make reservations, please call 951.928.3777, ext. 4350.
