Perris, CA (April 13, 2022) — April is National Garden Month, and Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) would like to help you be more efficient in your garden.

With spring in full bloom and the planting season officially here, it is a great time to plant water-wise landscaping, update your irrigation system to be more efficient, and check for leaks to ensure that your plants and your wallet are thriving.

EMWD’s Landscapes for Living program is a great resource and offers a variety of tool kits and free programs to help you be more efficient and get the most out of your garden and other landscaping including:

• EMWD will install drip systems in planter beds to replace overhead spray sprinklers, resulting in water savings and the irrigation going directly to the root area of the plants.
• EMWD offers free weather-based irrigation controllers. These will help you become more efficient with a system that automatically updates irrigation times daily based on the current weather, resulting in correct watering times for your landscape. The controllers and installation are free to EMWD customers.
• EMWD’s Landscapes for Living website offers sample landscape plans for customers and a variety of other tools, along with a list of contractors who have gone through educational programs to be specialists in water use efficiency.
• EMWD’s Demonstration Garden at its main office in Perris offers visitors a chance to gain ideas and see how beautiful a water efficient space can be. The garden is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., and is located at 2270 Trumble Road, Perris, CA.
